Chief Operations Officer
Mainstream Aquaculture (MAQ) is one of the world’s largest integrated producers and suppliers of Barramundi aquaculture products and services from a multi-site business headquartered in Melbourne, Australia. MAQ owns and operates sites in Wyndham Victoria, Innisfail and Mourilyan Queensland, and Phoenix Arizona in the USA. MAQ is a leading provider of Barramundi in Australia and exports to 25 countries.
CORE FUNCTIONS: Collaborate with the executive team in optimising the Australian operations. Manage production, business inputs/outputs and the supply chain to achieve company objectives. Reduce expenses, as measured by unit cost of production, and increase productivity, as measured by output from existing assets.
DETAILS OF FUNCTIONS: Manages all Australian business operations from hatch to customer. Manages personnel and develops staff. Reviews and makes decisions around operational performance throughout the company.
Accurately forecasts annual, quarterly and monthly revenue streams and expenses in collaboration with Mainstream’s finance team. Develops a safe and enjoyable working environment. Develops specific plans to ensure profitable operational performance.
Provides quarterly results assessments with a focus on team productivity and efficiency. Allocates company resources to ensure efficient and risk-managed outcomes. Formulates all operating policies, practices and procedures in collaboration with Mainstream’s quality assurance team.
Interprets short and long-term effects of strategies towards operating profit. Collaborates with executive team to establish and manage a best in class operational platform. REPORTING: Reports directly to the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS: A university degree is required with a minimum of five years of experience in operational management. Aquaculture experience is preferred but not essential. Problem solving and analytical skills to interpret performance and make decisions.
Ability to self-motivate and lead teams. Experience in developing operating strategies with excellent oral and written communication skills and a good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of products. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel are essential.
