As a Medical Practitioner (Registrar) you will be responsible for the provision of quality clinical services in the ICU facilities of Lyell McEwin Hospital, ensuring the highest standard of patient care. In this integral role, you will ensure that every patient admitted to the ICU has a thorough formal assessment and management plan fashioned in consultation with the ICU specialists. You will ensure that every patient in ICU is seen at least twice daily or more if required and that medical record entries to this effect are accurate, legible and contemporaneous.
A strong communicator, you will liaise with other relevant departments in matters pertaining to the provision of clinical care in the ICU. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to participate in Lyell McEwin Medical Emergency, Cardiac Arrest and Trauma teams, along with professional development activities, educational programs, audits and research. This position reports to the ICU Director, Supervisor of Training, or Delegate of the Intensive Care Services, supervision is provided on a daily basis by a Consultant.
Holding a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, you will be registered with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration. It is essential that you bring clinical experience in Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Anaesthetics setting. Able to work harmoniously as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will relate well to other medical practitioners, other health professionals and the public.
With drive, initiative and the ability to make accurate, rapid, reasoned decisions regarding patient care, you will be able to adapt quickly to any situation and be readily trained in basic intensive care procedures. Major challenges currently associated with the role include, managing a complex patient group with significant illnesses and multiple comorbidities and maintaining optimal communication with the team during complex and stressful situations.
