Senior Database Administrator | 6-Month Contract

Our client is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join them for an initial 6-month contract with option to extend for a further 3 - 6 months at their Newstead location, currently working from home. The contractor will be required to work in the Data and Integration team on a variety of operational initiatives and support projects as required. However, the primary role of this position will be to perform operational activities at the discretion of the Database Lead.

Technical Requirements Support Database environments on Oracle (11G & 12C R2) and MS SQL (2008-2017) in an operational environment; Manages database system lifecycle, performance, availability, capacity and security; This role will primarily have an Oracle and SQL DBA operational work focus as directed by the Database Lead; Applies technical knowledge to effectively root-cause analyse and resolve database problems; Monitors, analyses and reports service availability; Performance database tuning and instance configuration; Administers database system access and security controls; Develops and performs backup, archive and restore activities; Manages corporate database synchronisation and clustering services; Manages protection of corporate information against unauthorised use; Monitors, audits and verifies software licensing to contractual compliance; Initiates, plans and manages system changes and minor upgrades; Provides information to customers and stakeholders on updates, problems, or changes; Undertakes regular system and database maintenance processes; Maintains system configurations to corporate standards; Maintains and tests system disaster recovery procedures; Advises on design and performance tuning for application systems and projects; Provides technical assistance and daily direction to other Database Administrators; and It would be desirable for you to be familiar with Quest Spotlight, Fog light and Toad (or similar). Essential Criteria Have five years' experience and in-depth knowledge of administering Oracle as well as MS SQL in an operational environment; Be able to prioritise work in a busy operational / project environment with competing demands; Perform duties as outlined under section Technical Requirements; Be able to problem solve day to day issues, perform proactive management and take ownership of tasks; Knowledge of Service Management / ITIL; and Demonstrated experience in providing support to end users, problem management, configuration management in a SQL Server environment. Desirable Criteria Good understanding of Share Plex technology; Be able to work with many different people, at all levels in the organisation; Knowledge of Windows operating systems, clustering and experience in scripting at the OS and DB levels; Detailed understanding of information technology security and information protection principles; and Hands on experience with Oracle Exadata or Oracle Exadata training (highly desirable).
