The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist vacancy in General Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine to support its expanding adolescent service. Applicants with formal research qualifications, quality improvement skills/training and/or subspecialty recognition in Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine would be highly desirable. The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for children in Tasmania.
The hospital is also the primary teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. The Paediatric Unit currently accommodates babies, children and adolescents from birth to 18 years of age. It caters for a wide variety of medical, surgical, psychological and mental health conditions.
The inpatient service will move into the new K Block building this year and establish separate adolescents’ and children’s wards, the Children’s ward will have 24 beds and the new Adolescent Unit will have 16 beds with the potential to flex up. The paediatric service is supported by a Level 3 Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. This unit will also be moving into the new building in 2020.
As we move to separating the children’s and adolescents’ wards two services, we are looking for a Paediatrician with an interest in general paediatrics as well as a strength in Adolescent Medicine. The successful applicant will play a key role in the development of the Adolescent Medicine service. This will include inpatient, and outpatient services, as well as community linkages.
Salary A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicants dependent on clinical experience and seniority. Classification Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2017 Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1, 2 and 3 as described in the Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award. Award Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award Period of Employment Permanent full-time day work (with on-call), working 76 hours per fortnight.
