Workplace Health and Safety Compliance Officer

The Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap (JDFPG) is looking for a suitably qualified ASD6 Workplace Health and Safety Compliance Officer. As the Australian Signals Directorate's representative, the successful applicant will fill a vacancy in the Environmental Safety Office team, consisting of the United States (US) Government, US and Australian contractor personnel, to provide the site with the appropriate WHS guidance. The site operates under a unique Statement of Regulatory Agreement from the WHS regulator (Comcare) that recognises the unique nature of the site where a mix of US and Australian systems and capabilities are present.
This is a role that has unique challenges and opportunities not likely to be encountered elsewhere in Australia, working at a facility that directly supports both US and Australian government's Defence needs. A commencement date will be negotiated between JDFPG and the successful applicant. JDFPG is a unique Australian - United States Joint Defence Facility.
It is a central element of Australia's security and intelligence relationship with the US and makes a vital contribution to the security interests of both countries. Pine Gap operates under a unique Comcare Regulatory Approach Statement which recognises the unique concurrent application of Australian and US safety, building, operating standards and laws in regards to plant, structures and activities. The WHS compliance officer has the overall responsibility for safety at the facility and ensuring the facility's construction projects, maintenance and power generation is underpinned by a strong culture of safety.
Ensuring that the compliance standards of both the Australian and the United States governments are met for a facility of a large number of personnel is an extremely challenging and rewarding position. The successful applicant will support the JDFPG executive and workforce including provision of ongoing education and training, provision of policy guidance, assessment of existing workplace risks, assessment of risks associated with proposed new equipment, management of ASD's safety incident reporting tools at site, preparation and management of WHF audits, response to WHS information requests and representation at internal/external WHS meetings. As a major stakeholder in the Pine Gap Safety Management system you will be required to implement and drive a positive safety culture within Pine Gap.
