Head of Communications



Apple and Pear Australia Ltd (APAL) is the Peak Body for the apple and pear industry that works to add genuine value to Australia’s commercial apple and pear growers. It is a unique Peak Body as it has both a commercial and industry aspect to it. APAL owns, licenses and manages a number of fresh produce brands, which includes the globally recognised Pink Lady® apple brand.

Based in East Melbourne, an exciting opportunity is now available for a driven, inspiring and motivated Head of Communications to join and lead our experienced and passionate communications team. This is a unique communications role, which must equally support APAL’s commercial interests through its global brands and licensing, as it supports our domestic and industry interests. Coming from a similar Communications leadership position, you are an exceptionally organised, adaptable and creative person with strong leadership capabilities and experience.

You will also enjoy the interaction with external stakeholders and are a natural ambassador for the organisation. As a strategic thinker, you can manage multiple projects and competing priorities and interests and you will lead by example by showing initiative and being collaborative. Naturally you have excellent editing and writing skills and have a strong interest in the use of digital technologies to engage your audience.

Key Responsibilities: Leading the communications team and collaborating with the wider APAL team to ensure industry has best available information to inform decision-making Develop and drive Pink Lady® global communications strategy and provide support on global marketing activities in conjunction with the Commercial team Provide communications support for the CEO, Chairman and Board including media releases, articles, annual reports and industry advocacy and support communicating industry policy Oversee APAL’s key communication assets including industry website, digital newsletter and flagship magazine Commissioning and overseeing internal content creation for annual Australian Fruitgrower magazine Manage the delivery of multiple project commitments Oversee APAL communications to members Develop key stakeholder relationships to ensure effective partnerships Qualifications and Experience: Degree, or equivalent, in Marketing, Communications, Media or Public Relations Extensive demonstrated experience in a lead communications role and leading a team Experience in WordPress, Indesign, Google Analytics and social media content creation Self-motivated, well organised with a high sense of responsibility An ability to travel nationally as required Initiative, collaborative style and ability to work autonomously Strong stakeholder management abilities to build constructive and effective relationships at all levels You’ll be joining a great team whose enthusiasm and engagement fosters a rewarding and supportive environment.
