North Shore Ryde Mental Health Service, Mental Health Inpatient Unit Team based at Royal North Shore Hospital is looking for a Career Medical Officer. 00 pm to 10.30 pm Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. The CMO will receive a detailed handover from the Mental Health Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) when coming on duty, will work collaboratively with the CNC, the after-hours Psychiatry Registrar, the ED Nurse Unit Manager and the After-hours Mental Health Nurse Manager.
The CMO will provide a handover to the night after-hours Psychiatry Registrar prior to going off duty. All services operate within a multidisciplinary team-based environment, and the CMO will be working with and reporting to consultant psychiatrists. All discharges and admissions will be discussed with the Psychiatrist on-call.
The clinical work will involve working within a multi-disciplinary context and conducting assessments and planning treatment and/or discharge in accordance with the Mental Health Act, (2007) NSW. The Career Medical Officer will be expected to participate in relevant clinical, educational and administrative meetings. The CMO will be required to work an initial period during normal hours to receive orientation and training in the role and thereafter may be required to work an occasional day shift for supervision, professional development purposes.
Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency registration. Experience working in acute mental health settings, familiarity with principles and practices of clinical governance and understanding of NSW Mental Health Legislation. Experience and evidence of clinical supervision of mental health staff. Demonstrated high level of communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
Evidence of ongoing participation in continuing education. Demonstrated computer literacy. Current NSW C Class Drivers License.
