Locum General Practitioner Part time
L ocum Immediate Start - Ongoing Location: Yarraman Township: Yarraman has a population of approximately 1200 people but also has a patient base supplied from the surrounding region which includes the towns of Blackbutt, Cooyar, Maidenwell and Nanango. The region has a mix of farming/grazing and forestry. The patient variety includes working families, low income and welfare recipients and a large aged population.
Yarraman is distant two hours from Brisbane, ninety minutes from Toowoomba and two hours from the Sunshine Coast. There is local IGA facilities at Yarraman, regional shopping at Nanango (20 minutes), Kingaroy (forty minutes) and full shopping facilities at Toowoomba. Yarraman has a public school to year 10 and Nanango and Kingaroy have schooling both public and private to year 12.
Most sporting facilities are available between these local towns. Potential spouse employment is available sporadically through the many regional businesses and the surgery can be a frequent source of employment. Yarraman is an easy drive from the major centres yet provides a very peaceful and unhurried lifestyle.
There is no traffic lights, pollution, noise or long drives home in congested traffic. The patients can become your friends and you get to know whole families and share their lives over generations and this is exceptionally rewarding. I have been in practice here for 32 years and am left with fond memories and no regrets.
Position Description: This position is part time Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The surgery is owned by the current GP and the premises will be available for renting to the new GP. The practice is busy and it is ideally suited to two GP's sharing the workload.
There is no obstetrics or anaesthetics. Skin excision surgery is performed along with the usual suture repair of wounds. The practice occurs at the one (Yarraman) location.
Practice Details: This solo GP practice has been operating since 1983 continuously and is unopposed in Yarraman. There is great scope for absorbing a further full time GP into the practice (this is classified as an area of need) The surgery is computerised but uses hybridised records (prescriptions, pathology forms, health summaries, letter writing on computer, hand written notes during consultations). It has the usual range of equipment consistent with modern practice and each room is air conditioned.
The patient demographics comprises a mixture of working families, the elderly, socially disadvantaged and very few tourists. The average daily patient load is about 40 but numbers have been restricted due to the practice being solo. Excellent specialist facilities are available at Toowoomba and of course Brisbane and local hospitals are located at Nanango and Kingaroy.
After Hours : There is a very low after hours usage. Weeknights are covered by the practice but very few calls ever occur after 6 pm. Weekend call can be negotiated on a roster with GP's in Nanango and Blackbutt.
