The Lab is located in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, on the same open-plan floor as several other highly experienced and successful laboratory heads in the areas of signalling, cancer and metabolism.
The Lab is also part of the Monash BDI Metabolism Diabetes and Obesity program, arguably one of Australiaâ€™s leading programs in metabolism research. The successful candidate will benefit from this highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment with the aim of nurturing the career development of ambitious researchers towards independent careers in academia and industry. The Tiganis Lab is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to join an established research team with a track record in research excellence.
The team takes an integrative approach that stems the fields of metabolism, immunology and cancer to address fundamental questions in biology and disease. A particular focus is the pathophysiological mechanisms contributing to obesity and type 2 diabetes and how these in turn drive the development of diseases such non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and cancer. Project areas where positions are currently available include the following: Post-doctoral positions are available to explore the molecular mechanisms by which the CNS controls energy balance, glucose metabolism and ageing and how these processes are influenced by stress and exercise.
Post-doctoral positions are available to characterise the importance of redox balance in health and disease. Projects exploring the role of reactive oxygen species and NOXs in metabolism, cancer and ageing are available. Post-doctoral positions are available to determine the molecular mechanisms by which obesity drives the development of cancer.
A specific focus is on understanding how obesity drive the development of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and hepatocellular carcinoma. Post-doctoral positions are available to explore how obesity influences anti-tumour immunity and the response to immunotherapy. A specific focus is on the influence of obesity to sensitivity to immune checkpoint blockade.
