This role assists the Director of Nursing, act as the coordinator of clinical services in the Day Surgery and ensure suitable services are maintained. Within our Day Surgery division we are now seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing to assist the Director of Nursing in the coordination of clinical services in the Day Surgery ensuring suitable services are maintained.

Responsibilities for this role include: Advising the Director of Nursing about any matters of concern in the day surgery. Orientation of new staff, facilitate staff education ensuring completion of yearly mandatory training. Meet emergency situations with skill and judgment, by being familiar with standard emergency procedures and being actively involved with fire and emergency procedure in-service training.

Participate in the Quality Activities and assist in the drafting and revision of Day Surgery policies. Assist the Director of Nursing with the rostering of staff ensuring, appropriate staff levels and the collection of audits and statistical information and delegate duties appropriately. Commitment to ongoing professional development to keep up to date on new theatre practices, WHS issues and Infection Control Guidelines.

Assist in the maintenance of the Accreditation Reporting Tool (ART) for all the NSQHS Standards. Ensure that all relevant changes are updated in the ART as necessary. Assist in the bi-annual Clinical Indicators reporting via the ACHS tool.

Ensure accurate reporting of near misses/incidents to the Director of Nursing in accordance with the incident management policy. Practice safe work practices as outlined in the Day Surgery’s Policies. Fulfil the designated functions on the daily duty list e.

g. scout, scrub or recovery room nurse. Ensure the infection control guidelines as outlined in the NSW Health Department Infection Control Policy and HICMR are adhered to at all times.

Maintaining accurate documentation of patients’ records in accordance with Day Surgery policies, including the Medical Records Documentation policy. Be familiar / check contents of the emergency trolley when allocated on the daily duty list. Be familiar with all equipment and use in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.

At the completion of each surgical list ensure all equipment is properly cleaned, as per cleaning schedule. Suitable candidates will possess the following skills and experience: Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (Nursing) Tertiary nursing qualification prefer.
