About Department Reporting to the Head of Gastroenterology, the integrated Hepatology Nurse Consultant (CNC) will work within the Gastroenterology Unit at St Vincentâ€™s Health. The purpose of the role is to provide high quality professional clinical care, education and support for people living with viral hepatitis, including hepatitis C and hepatitis B, and for those who are undertaking antiviral treatment. The role requires the CNC to work in collaboration with specialists in the Gastroenterology Department, with specific primary health care services and other key community based and hospital based services, in the provision of treatment for people with Hepatitis C living in the community.
The CNC will also provide expert advice to GPs, practice nurses, mental health and alcohol and drug services and other key networks within the hospital as well as in the community. About the Role This position was created to promote collaboration between the Gastroenterology Department at St Vincentâ€™s Hospital and primary health care service staff and other key community services, in the provision of community based treatment for people with chronic viral hepatitis. Classifications for this position will range from ZA7 â€“ ZA8 ($55-$56 per hour).
Duties Provision and management of care for people with or affected by liver disease in the community. Conduct comprehensive, protocol-guided assessment of patients with liver disease due to viral hepatitis at the hospital and in the community, including performance of liver elastoghraphy (Fibroscan). Co-ordination of specialist gastroenterologist review, as required, of clients prior to initiating antiviral therapy.
Initiate and manage protocol-driven approved treatment courses for chronic viral hepatitis. Facilitate comprehensive follow up of individuals with liver disease who have undertaken treatment and/or experienced side-effects.
