ELECTORATE OFFICER - MEDIA Senator Jenny McAllister Senator for New South Wales Shadow Cabinet Secretary Shadow Minister Assisting the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed media adviser to join our office. About the role: The media adviser will help manage the Senatorâ€™s communications. Responsibilities will include: building and managing media relationships; proactively finding media opportunities and developing the media materials and responses needed to take advantage of them; providing advice on political and media strategy and sophisticated briefings on the issues of the day; developing content for social media; and assisting with other office work including policy research, speechwriting, community and stakeholder engagement, and general administration.
About you: You believe in the power of progressive politics to change Australia for the better, and have a minimum of three yearsâ€™ experience in media, politics, advocacy or a related field. You have, or will be able to develop, the following skills and attributes: an understanding of how to effectively operate in Australiaâ€™s political media environment; the ability to build and nurture a network of productive relationships; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to work as part of a close-knit team; good judgment, well developed analytical skills, and a capacity to identify the real issues; curiosity about the policy challenges facing Australia; and drive, determination and willingness to take initiative. Further details The role is classified as an Electorate Officer B position, and will attract a total starting salary of $94,047.
The role will be based in our electorate in office in Drummoyne, but the successful candidate will be required to travel regularly, including to Canberra during sitting weeks. A probationary period of up to 5 months will apply. The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2016-2019.
