Operations Specialist - Yallourn Power Station
As a result of our ongoing pursuit to be market leader – and a pending retirement, we are currently recruiting for a unique and exciting senior operations position at our Yallourn power station. About the role Reporting to the Operations Leader, the Operations Specialist will form part of the Power Station Operations Leadership team. The role provides highly specialist operations technical and leadership support for the Operations group.
The three main areas of focus for this role will be 1) outage coordination 2) operations training, and 3) relieving in the Operations Team Leader role as required. The successful incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to the following: Conducting Operations based training to advance operators from recruitment to full competency; Assessing operator competency against company training standards and practices; Conducting Permit system familiarisation and authorisation training and assessments; Development and maintenance of highly effective shift operations teams to achieve plant operating targets whilst still promoting a performance based culture Working with Maintenance personnel to understand the work to be carried out in the outages; Determining the most appropriate plant/equipment that requires isolation in order to safely and efficiently perform the works; Assisting with determining the structure of permits required giving thought to workface interactions, ability and need to recommission following works and ability to have a staged approach to taking permits out and cancelling of permits; Assist in arranging for recommissioning of plant by plant operators; Assist scheduler to produce and update an integrated outage schedule including withdrawal from service and return to service aspects; Develop remedies to plant performance issues in consultation with maintenance, asset management and operation staff to optimize plant performance and revenue; Investigating plant 'Abnormal Occurrence' reports - Detailed investigations of plant events, such as unscheduled unit trips etc; Identifying root causes and to ensure adequate response to avoid recurrence; Managing and review of Operating Instructions, ensuring that operating instructions for starting and operating all plant are in place; Managing teams to achieve power station operating targets; Represent the Power Station Operations Leader at various management activities So, what are we looking for in a successful candidate? The incumbent will possess well developed technical ability through many years of experience in operating base load generation plant, including the coaching, leading or mentoring of other operations staff. It is expected that incumbent in this role will exhibit behavioural competencies consistent with a middle level leader / manager.
