The Opportunity Melton City Council's Environmental Planning team is responsible for responding to environmental referrals from the statutory planning system, which involves assessing planning permit applications, construction environmental management plans (CEMPs), weed management plans (WMPs) and related documentation.

The team is also involved in providing internal environmental compliance advice for council's capital project portfolio, city design and landscaping projects, and environmental reserve management. Key Responsibilities: Provide advice to Council business units regarding Council's legislative responsibilities and obligations as they relate to biodiversity protection and management. Contribute to the protection of nationally endangered grassland, woodland and wetland communities and other local biodiversity assets within the City of Melton.

Work to ensure compliance with planning permit conditions, including Native Vegetation Offset requirements, Weed Management Plans, and Construction Environmental Management Plans. Liaise with Commonwealth and State government agencies, non-government agencies, developers, and the community on a range of environmental planning issues. Undertake site inspections where necessary.

About you To be successful in this role you will have the following: Tertiary qualification in Environmental Planning, Ecology, Conservation and Land Management, or related field with relevant experience or lesser formal qualification with substantial experience. Knowledge of the Victorian planning system (e.g.

Planning and Environment Act 1987, Melton Planning Scheme) as it relates to environmental planning, including an understanding of native vegetation policy and procedures (e.g. Guidelines for the removal, destruction or lopping of native vegetation).

Understanding of the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and its implications for biodiversity management in the City. Understanding of the Biodiversity Conservation Strategy (BCS), sub-regional species strategies and any other relevant State policy and legislations. Current valid Victorian Driver's Licence.
