The Role Reporting directly to the Risk Analytics Manager, this role is responsible for identifying, modelling and quantifying commodity risks in relation to Origin’s energy market trading and operations. The role will involve working directly with stakeholders to identify and mitigate the drivers of risk.
Responsibilities & Duties Understand the physical and financial elements of Origin’s wholesale electricity portfolio and strategy. Working with the Risk Analytics Manager to aid development of capability to understand Origin's portfolio, commercial incentives, and strategy. Check compliance against risk policies and limits.
Work across teams to share and monitor Origin's overall risk with respect to budget and Long-Term Financial Plan benchmarks. Work with Portfolio Trading, Trading Operations, Commercial, Trading Support, Analysis & Development teams to ensure common portfolio understanding via monthly assumptions meetings for each commodity. Establishing and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders to ensure Market Risk’s understanding of the electricity positions and strategy are relevant and up to date.
Explain results verbally and in written format via monthly Risk Reporting. Between risk reporting periods, provide analytical ‘consultancy’ support to other teams, including understanding customer requirements, advising analytical solutions or approaches to customer problems and then implement solutions. About you Tertiary qualifications in a relevant quantitative discipline e.
g. finance, econometrics, engineering, mathematics or relevant equivalent and demonstrable experience. At least 5 years of experience in a trading/market risk/commodity /reporting role .
Experience in electricity is preferable. Commercial acumen with demonstrated ability to identify drivers of profit and loss. Proven skills in building and maintaining business relationships, with excellent communication skills.
Self-motivated, inquisitive, adaptable in a dynamic environment. Strong problem solving, analytical and technical abilities. Highly skilled in Excel at a minimum with a preference for experience in visualisation software like Tableau/Power BI or programming languages such as SQL/Python/VBA/R.
Proven ability to problem solve with strong attention to detail. Self-motivated, inquisitive, and adaptable in a dynamic environment. Ability to work to tight deadlines.
