The Townsville Bulletin is looking for an all-rounder preferably based in the Burdekin region to cover everything from breaking news, court and local council to business, health, rural/farming, education, social/community events and everything in between. Regional newspapers like the Townsville Bulletin allow journalists to cover a diverse range of rounds from Day 1 that bigger publications may not, providing staff with immediate on-the-ground training and ongoing mentoring from esteemed journalists and newsroom leaders right across the country.

Source and create compelling stories that resonate with an audience Deliver relevant content that both engages our existing subscribers and attracts new readers Work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced environment to cover breaking stories without compromising on quality or accuracy Focus on online engagement and drive subscription growth Demonstrate initiative to search for stories that are not already breaking and identify unique angles that drive conversation and move the issue forward Digest digital data and use it in planning content Who are you? You will be an enthusiastic and resilient writer, comfortable with getting out in the community to chase stories, take photos and shoot video. You enjoy learning about the community, meeting new people and building a network of contacts that will allow you to drive your own news agenda every day by getting the 'exclusives' that sets our newspaper apart from the competition.

You write with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, with flair for the creative when it comes to enticing a reader to engage with your content through catchy headlines and intros. You have an understanding of social media and SEO and want to learn about your audience through trends, analytics and tools to help you write more content that appeals to them. You have skills (or an interest in developing your skills) in multimedia storytelling using video and audio to deliver captivating visual content to complement your stories for print and online.

You want to work hard and build your career while also enjoying the camaraderie and fun working in a regional newsroom can bring. You hold a valid driver's licence and are willing to work a rotating weekend roster and early/late shifts as required. What's in it for you?
