View our Child Safe Policy. The Opportunity Do you have a PhD in chemistry (organic and/or polymer), materials science, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering or a related field? Want to conduct world-class research with a team of dedicated scientists. Join CSIRO – Australia’s leading scientific research organisation CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience.
These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system. In this position the Postdoctoral Fellow will undertake research in the design and synthesis of new biomedical polymers using flow chemistry. Potentially they will employ design of experiment and/or artificial intelligence/machine earning (ML/AI) methods to aid the design, optimization and/or synthesis of the polymers.
Experimental work is likely to involve the design, synthesis and characterization of novel monomers and polymers. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work within the CSIRO Manufacturing Biomedical Manufacturing Program, in collaboration with scientists at CSIRO Data61 and Monash University. They will be supported by a team of leading research scientists who have extensive experience in their respective fields of research.
The team has strong experience working with multidisciplinary research, particularly in biomedical polymers and artificial intelligence. The team members have strong publication records and significant involvement with the industry. The CSIRO Clayton site is adjacent to Monash University, and in close proximity to a number of key national scientific facilities including the Australian Synchrotron, the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication, and Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF).
Your duties will include: Carrying out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes. Recognising and exploit opportunities for innovation and the generation of new theoretical perspectives, and progress opportunities for the further development or creation of new lines of research. Utilising design thinking methodology to plan and prepare research proposals, and apply non-academic impact m.
