The MIWS Branch is responsible for managing naval combat systems across the Royal Australian Navy's surface fleet.

The Senior Systems Engineer role provides a unique opportunity to shape and develop the combat system architecture across the surface combatant fleet. The Senior Systems Engineer will be expected to have a high degree of knowledge and experience with respect to systems engineering, including architecture design concepts and an understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). The successful applicant will be required to lead distributed technical teams and liaise with a variety of stakeholders to solve and document complex engineering problems.

Key Responsibilities - Support and contribute to the continuing development of surface combatant reference architecture - Support development, maintenance, and alignment of combat system requirements documentation - Review and provide feedback on systems engineering artefacts delivered to the MIWS Branch - Establish and maintain close relationships with internal and external stakeholders/customers and lead distributed technical teams in delivery of engineering outcomes Skills, Experience and Qualifications - Recognised tertiary qualification in a relevant engineering discipline - Demonstrated experience within a Defence engineering environment with a minimum 8 years relevant experience, preferably within the domain of naval combat systems - Requires deep knowledge of the systems engineering work area and experience in an engineering discipline including involvement in one or more of the following practices: - Requirements Definition - Requirements Management - Requirements Analysis - Design - Verification and Validation - System Architecture Design - A specialty within the systems engineering discipline would be viewed favourably - Familiarity with Systems Engineering Tools (e.g. DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler) - Applicants must be eligible to attain and maintain Australian Department of Defence security clearance of Negative Vetting 1 (NV1).
