Reporting to the SMC Environment Manager, the Environment Approval Manager will lead the sub-function to manage environment approvals and regulatory engagement strategies to drive transparency and accountability across the business. This includes the accountability to lead a small team providing support services to sites and projects on environmental approvals and returns. The role will be rewarding and varied and will involve the following: Technical lead on processes involved with obtaining necessary environmental approvals Subject matter expert on State and Federal regulatory processes Communicating relevant legal changes/updates and court proceedings to site teams as part of operational due diligence processes.

Proactively lead sites in relation to Environmental Permits management across Steelmaking Coal Develop and lead key chapters required under the Global Investment Assurance (GIA) process Lead processes involved with obtaining a variety of environmental approvals Drive process to ensure awareness of the implications of failure to comply with the AASMC or external regulatory approval and permitting Standards Stakeholder engagement and troubleshooting with external regulators and Group Legal to ensure alignment with regulator and community expectations Lead the approval and environmental permitting processes within Steelmaking Coal Responsible for amendments & Post Approvals for all Environmental Authority & EPBC approvals This role is suited to someone who has significant experience in environmental approvals in the mining industry combined with operational experience. You will be a strong leader who's determined to drive change and ensure the team is set up for success. Tertiary qualification in Environmental Engineering or Science combined with extensive practical experience Strong track record with engaging with stakeholders across multiple sites and workstreams including regulatory Demonstrated experience in a business planning role Demonstrated experience in risk management techniques and critical controls Track record of interfacing with, and influencing, internal managers across all functions of the business Familiar with basic financial metrics and budgeting tools.
