Opportunity to work at an iconic Victorian landmark Ongoing, full time position South Yarra location About our Organisation Beyond their physical beauty, the Gardens also contribute to global and local biodiversity knowledge, through research, discovery, protection, cultivation and restoration of rare and threatened plant species, both ex-situ and in the bushland, and as the insurance policy for a state's unique flora pre- and post-bushfire recovery. Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria is also the custodian of the $340 million State Botanical Collection (including over 1.5 million preserved plants, algae and fungi), housed within the National Herbarium of Victoria, and is a hub for global plant knowledge, with internationally recognised biodiversity management and conservation research programs.

The Gardens is also a steward for irreplaceable preserved plant collections, plant records, seeds and knowledge required for future generations to thrive; and is increasingly known for innovative engagement programs that highlight the role of nature in underpinning individual and community wellbeing, whilst fostering social inclusion for community benefit. au About the Role The Curation Officer is responsible for curating herbarium specimens in the State Botanical Collection, including databasing and incorporating specimens, processing loans, exchange and donations, assisting Collections visitors and protecting the Collection against damage. About You With tertiary qualifications in science or another relevant discipline, the successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in herbarium procedures, curatorial methods and collecting protocols. You have a sound knowledge of Australian native flora and are familiar with botanical literature and databases.

Methodical and self-motivated, you can complete detailed repetitious tasks accurately and efficiently. You have proven planning and organisation skills and can adapt to changing work demands. Your natural communication and interpersonal skills mean you can work well with a diverse range of individuals and as part of a small team.
