TARGETED VACANCY: This role is designated as Indigenous Identified. Under s.25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), it is a genuine occupational requirement for the person to be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

This Indigenous Identified position will have a key role in coordinating and supporting a special Fisheries Working Group, working closely with key stakeholders, to identify new economic pathways in Cape York through charter fisheries and tourism operations. -The role's focus will be to coordinate a special fishery Working group to identify new economic pathways through charter fisheries and tourism operations in far north Queensland/ Cape York region.
-Develop and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities and other key stakeholders and agencies to deliver partnerships and economic pathways related to fisheries. -The role requires a high level of initiative, ability to identify and address issues, while maintaining productive working relationships. -Contribute to broader fisheries management processes as required, including develop and maintain fishery management tools, in particular harvest strategies, as well as policy and regulatory instruments to support the management of Queensland's fisheries resources.
-Contribute to the planning, development and implementation of strategies to ensure the effective management of fisheries resources in accordance with the Fisheries Act 1994. -Prepare high quality correspondence, project plans, reports, briefing notes, and other associated written documentation on a range of fishery activities, initiatives, issues, management action and projects. -Develop and maintain strong relationships and consult with peers, staff, clients, researchers, government agencies and other key stakeholders to develop advice, recommendations and options for the management of Queensland's fisheries resources.
-Utilise technical fisheries understanding, analyse technical assessments, biological research and reports and fishery population data to implement harvest strategies and support the better management of fisheries through changes to legislation, policies and guidelines. -Represent Fisheries Queensland at fishery working groups, meetings with fishing stakeholders, conferences and workshops. -Contribute to the team, by fostering of a professional environment which encourages commitment, ethical behaviour, skills development, professional growth and continuous improvement.
