Senior Policy/Project Advisor (Mental Health Reform)

About the role: An experienced senior policy / project advisor is encouraged to step forward for this high profile and complex project. On behalf of Victoria Police, you will be part of a Mental Health Reform Project Team that will be responsible for planning and designing Victoria Police's input into recommendations arising from the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System (RCVMHS). You'll be part of a dedicated project team that will provide planning, policy and project support for the development of reforms arising from RCVMHS and impacting on Victoria Police.

These reforms will include a variety of external agencies working together to achieve various recommendations from the Royal Commission. This project will change how police currently respond to mental health crises and work with other agencies to deliver effective health-led responses. To meet the deliverables, the team will work closely with internal Victoria Police stakeholders and frontline policing areas to ensure reforms meet the needs of the Victorian Community.

Networking is critical to the success of this project and you'll engage with key stakeholders across the organisation and external government agencies. The successful applicant will report to the Senior Project Manager – Mental Health Reform. Victoria Police is a contemporary and agile workplace and support flexible working arrangements.

Your duties will include: Contributing to the management, monitoring and accurate reporting of project schedules, risks, and benefits. Preparation of project related reports, briefings and communications to Government stakeholders both internal and external to Victoria Police. Preparation of submissions, reports and strategic advice on issues and opportunities and undertaking change management activities.

Identifying emerging issues, risks and trends that may impact on the success of the project. Providing advice and support within a small team to deliver high quality outputs and implementing mental health related reform. Contributing to organisational objectives and priorities.

As the successful applicant, you will have: Experience in providing specialist advice to senior executives, preferably in a legal or public sector environment. Experience in preparing complex written reports, business cases and submissions and assessing legislative issues. Experience in policy development, consultation processes and change management processes.

Highly developed organisational skills, ability to manage priorities and deliver to deadlines. Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills. High level communication skills, including proven ability to provide authoritative and strategic advice to executives and senior officials.

Strong organisational awareness and ability to present information for varying audiences. Ability to work under pressure to produce high quality outputs. Ability to work as part of a team.
