In-House Legal Counsel - Mining, Energy & Resources

Australian mining company with a newly established renewable energy business seeking a Legal Counsel with approx. 4-7 years' PAE. Our client is an Australian mining company supplying domestic and export markets.

They currently have an opportunity for a Legal Counsel to assist in providing advice on a range of legal, compliance and corporate governance matters and supporting their newly established Australian renewable energy business. Based at their Sydney Office, the role reports to the Executive General Counsel and has a broad and varied scope covering corporate and commercial issues. You will be responsible for assisting on a range of legal matters of the business through positive, aligned, integrated participation with the management team and internal and external counsel.

Key Responsibilities: Assisting in the management and conduct of legal, governance and regulatory matters. Assisting in providing legal advice to management and the various business units within the Group on a broad range of matters, including; transactional matters, operational projects, sales and marketing, joint ventures, environment and approvals, mining and property, WHS, procurement and compliance. Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements.

Ensuring management is kept up to date about significant legal and regulatory developments that may affect the Group’s business. Assisting with ongoing legal compliance training within the Group. Co-ordinating and managing external lawyers.

Working in a proactive, collaborative manner to identify and manage legal risk and requirements in key business activities. Requirements: Approx. 4-7 years' PAE in a corporate and commercial law environment.

Experience in the mining, energy or resources industries will be highly regarded. Good commercial acumen and strong drafting, reviewing and negotiating skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels in the business.
