Job Description Nine is currently seeking applications for the role of Business reporter for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. With a history dating back 190 years, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age are the nation’s two oldest and best read mastheads. We have a rich history of courageous, quality and unbiased journalism.
In 2021, we are in a stronger position than ever with readership and subscriber numbers continuing to grow. Business is a critical topic for Herald and Age subscribers. In addition to our core coverage areas of financial markets, companies, entrepreneurship, personal finance and technology, the business team is regularly involved in national affairs coverage, working in concert with the federal politics, state, world and environment teams on major stories.
The heart of this role is to create outstanding business journalism at the highest level across our digital and print platforms. The candidate will be required to cover ASX-listed companies and will also be required to fulfil shifts on our daily Markets Live blog. Other duties will include: Researching and writing breaking news, profiles, trend stories and features.
Generating unique ideas for the daily and weekly news cycles. Maintaining an extensive network of contacts/sources. Preparing clear, accurate, balanced, well-written and well-researched stories that conform to style for publication across platforms.
Taking ownership of stories/issues and follow up stories when appropriate. Ensuring the highest standard of accuracy, ethics and editorial quality. Writing an appropriate and agreed number of quality stories as commissioned, to appropriate length and in a timely manner.
