Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals - Surgery and Critical Care Darwin, Palmerston Fixed – Full Time from 07/02/2022 for 12 months Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospital is seeking an Unaccredited Ophthalmology Registrar to join the Department of Ophthalmology for 12 months. The RDH is the single tertiary hospital within the Top End Health Services (TEHS), and provides surgical coverage for the Top End of the Northern Territory (NT) and northern Western Australia with a catchment population of over 250,000.
The RDH provides acute and complex elective surgical services, with ambulatory services and lower acuity elective surgery at Palmerston Regional Hospital. Key duties and responsibilities Admit, manage and discharge patients from hospital under the supervision of the Specialist on duty with the aim of providing the highest possible standards of care; Promote and participate in recognised principles of clinical practice and case management; Document all relevant information with regard to patient management utilising hard copy files and the computerised information system as appropriate; Participate in continuous medical education, professional development, peer review, research, teaching, quality improvement activities and clinical audits as appropriate; Provide supervision and training to junior medical staff and other clinical staff as appropriate; Participate in routine and emergency after-hours care as rostered; Participate in audit, risk management activities and research. Selection criteria Essential Eligible for general or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
Have appropriate training and experience applicable to Ophthalmology At least twelve months experience as an Resident Medical Officer; Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively as a team member in a cross-cultural work environment. An interest in and a commitment to improving Indigenous health. An ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
