Team Leader - Kennel Hand/Animal Attendant
This job is as exciting as it is rewarding. Looking After rescue dogs and cats is hard work and it would not be as rewarding as it is if it wasn't hard work The Kind of People that we Need: We specifically need Leaders ; people who are interested in getting to know what we do, how we do it, learn to do it well and supervise the running of shifts and taking on the responsibility of a Team Leader Role. We need switched on people who have attention to detail and who are comfortable with all types of dogs, mostly medium and larger breeds.
The environment is dynamic and there is always something to get done (between doggie cuddles when you can fit them in). We mostly have dogs but the cat section of our shelter accounts a considerable load of about 20% of the total work. The care of our animals includes cleaning enclosures, feeding, exercising and looking after their general well-being.
Applicants need to also be aware that the role requires a lot of physical activity and handling of strong, large, energetic dogs. We are a large shelter with over 55 dogs and 10-15 cats at any time. We mostly rescue our dogs and cats from pounds and the ultimate goal is to care for them, provide rehabilitation where needed and then ultimately find them a forever home.
The tasks include: Caring for dogs and cats Feeding dogs and cats Walking and exercising dogs Lots of cleaning Daily upkeep of the shelter Supervising of other team members and being in responsible for the overall running of shifts Successful applicants will be trained to understand our needs and procedures and if suitable, will progress to undertake training in the Team Leader Role (Lead Kennel Hand). Applicants must: Have Leadership experience Be able to supervise other team members and get tasks done as a team according to the daily schedule Have Dog Handling Experience Be comfortable around large, energetic dogs Be willing to handle or be willing to learn to handle dogs with behavioral problems that require extra handling skills and care If no cat handling experience, must be willing to learn If you are a motivated , enthusiastic and hard working person with a big heart who loves animals and cares for their well-being and looking for a rewarding way to spend your time and earn money this is the job for you Hours: We need someone who can work between 15-25hrs per week and there will be potential to increase hours up to 25-30 hours.
