As part of our strategy to increase the diversity of our workforce, Aboriginal Australian people are strongly encouraged to apply for this job and applications will be primarily considered in accordance with Section 51 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 THE YOUTH IN EMERGENCY SERVICE (YES) PROGRAM The Youth in Emergency Services program provides young people with a working knowledge of the emergency services and local hazards, increases community resilience to emergencies and supports the transition of young people into emergency services volunteering. About the role The Department of Fire and Emergency Services will pilot the Youth in Emergency Services (YES) program in the Kimberley. The Youth Programs Officer (YPO) is responsible for developing the local model for the YES program, building relationships across the emergency services and community to support the program, its implementation, review and evaluation.
The role will be particularly engaged in development and implementation of the Kimberley Hubs YES program which is part-funded through the National Disaster Resilience Program. The YPO will work with Kimberley based emergency services personnel and the Department's Perth-based Youth in Emergency Services Coordinator to establish the YES program in the Kimberley. The successful applicant will demonstrate good organisational and administrative skills and strong networking capability, as well as a commitment to building positive development opportunities for young people and the emergency services.
The ability to be a self-starter and a good understanding of local Aboriginal communities will be beneficial. This program will build participants knowledge and understanding of the local environment and explore the role of Aboriginal cultures for the emergency services.
