Commissions and Policy Officer 12month contract in Federal Government Community Service organisation that are adding value within our community. This 12-month contract role will add to the team of existing professionals who are all working harmoniously towards the common goal.

The community reporting is vast and will challenge your skills in a broad and valued communication production across case studies , research and policy reports About the role The Engagement Branch is responsible for designing and undertaking external-facing activities. It is also responsible for collecting and analysing individual experiences. The Private Sessions Team is responsible for: Designing policy and processes Managing requests for private sessions, Working collaboratively with all teams Attending all private sessions with Commissioners Creating a record of each private session, including drafting summaries and analysing the information captured Making appropriate recommendations that information be referred to law enforcement agencies.

The successful applicant will demonstrate: Experience taking information from a range of people, including people with disability Ability to, or an ability to quickly acquire the ability to, take information from people with communication challenges An understanding of the issues impacting people with disability An ability to quickly build subject matter expertise and collaboratively share and input to the work of other areas of the Royal Commission A broad understanding of the work of the DRC The ability to work effectively in high pressure environments with changing priorities, high workloads and tight timeframes A capacity to effectively work in and contribute to a rapidly evolving, agile and forward thinking environment The ability to liaise widely and develop productive working relationships with internal and stakeholders An ability to quickly gain and apply a thorough understanding of private session principles including relevant legislation and techniques of trauma informed practice Strong leadership capability and strategic thinking skills Sound judgment, common sense and discretion Excellent written and verbal communication skills The ability to uphold and model the APS Values, Code of Conduct, Employment Principles and AGD Performance Expectations. Legal qualifications and experience are highly regarded. The position is based in Canberra, however there will be significant inter and intrastate travel involved including to regional and remote locations (pending border restrictions).
