Our commitment to high quality services means that we need talented, committed people – we need you We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced City Patrol Officer to join our Regulatory Services Operations team now The individual we are seeking will have a background and experience in local laws or legislation specific to Local Law Enforcement, display a high level of customer service and conflict resolution skills and demonstrated experience in inspection, investigation and report writing skills in relation to law infringements. The key responsibilities of this role are (but not limited to): Undertake regular patrols and attend to enforcement of the relevant Council Local Laws.
Educate, assist and advise the public to ensure the observation of relevant Legislation, Local Laws and Cairns Regional Council Policies throughout the community. Enforcement of parking regulations in accordance with the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995 , associated Regulations and Council’s Local Laws. Enforcement of activities in contravention of Councils Local Laws, including touting, busking, illegal signage and littering.
Public relations functions such as providing general information to the public on the city and area attractions, parking etc. Report activities occurring in contravention of Local Laws including but not limited to wandering animals and illegal camping. Conduct routine patrols and surveys of the CBD area to ensure compliance with relevant Council Local Laws as requested.
To be considered for this position you must have: A current C class Driver’s Licence. Demonstrated knowledge of local laws or legislation specific to Local Law Enforcement. Demonstrated previous experience in inspection, investigation and basic report writing in relation to local law infringements.
Knowledge of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995 and Regulations or demonstrated ability to acquire same. Knowledge of the Cairns area and its tourist attractions. Demonstrated ability and physical capacity to undertake a variety of strenuous physical tasks.
Sound computer skills. Ability to relate in a courteous and diplomatic manner, particularly in dispute situations. High level of communication skills, including excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
