UQ Biological Resources The University of Queensland Biological Resources Unit (UQBR) manages the laboratory animal production and research facilities for the University of Queensland. The role of UQBR is to provide UQ with world-class Animal Research services to UQ researchers involved in research using laboratory animals. We are currently advertising for Trainee Animal Technical Officer (HEW 2) / Animal Technical Officer (HEW 3) broad-banded positions within UQBR animal facilities.
About This Opportunity The appointee will provide care and husbandry to a range of animals, including rodent breeding and stock holding colonies, carrying out research associated procedures and ensuring their welfare needs are met at all times for UQ Biological Resources. These positions could be located at either St Lucia, Herston or Woolloongabba campus, in Brisbane. It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine-preventable diseases.
Medical Clearance: Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position. Your appointment is therefore subject to, and conditional upon, satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety. In addition, the Employee is required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.
Our Ideal Candidate The successful applicant for the Trainee animal Technical Officer (HEW 2) role must have an interest with working in an animal research facility or have at least 6 months’ work experience in an animal facility. The applicant must also be willing to undergo a formal qualification in the Laboratory animal technology industry The successful applicant for Animal Technical Officer (HEW 3) role must possess qualifications in relevant disciplines or an equivalent combination of relevant experience. You should also have expertise in rodent colonies and a sound knowledge and experience in all aspects of animal house operation and animal handling techniques You must have ongoing unrestricted work rights in Australia to apply for this opportunity.

What We Can Offer This is a full-time, fixed-term position at HEW level 2 or 3, depending on skills and experience. This position is fixed-term for 3 years. The full-time equivalent base salary at HEW 2 will be in the range $55,595.
92 - $56,931.99, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $65,047 - $66,610.
