Head Veterinary Nurse

Our Wollaston Clinic based in Warrnambool is presently seeking to recruit a qualified Head Veterinary Nurse to work as part of our dynamic team of companion animal clinicians on a full time basis. Key tasks performed as part of this role include: People To allocate duties on a daily basis for all nursing staff and ensure they have the correct training for that area. Assist the veterinarians with surgery and clinics for both inpatient and outpatient animals.

Ensure good communication amongst all areas/departments of the clinic. To allocate areas of responsibility to all nurses and ensure this is carried out fully and all records are kept up to date. To ensure all new veterinary nurses receive a full induction and successfully complete the induction checklist in a timely fashion in consultation with the HR Manager.

Conduct regular one-on-ones and participate in annual appraisals for all line reports. To act as mentor/coach for all student veterinary nurses. To approve annual leave for all line reports and produce monthly rosters, including on call rosters.

Have regular meetings with both the CA Clinic Lead & CA Practice Manager. Learning & Development To ensure own knowledge and skills are kept up to date. To inform both the CA Clinic Lead & Practice Manager of any gaps in your knowledge and identify training needs.

To take full responsibility for your own learnings. To ensure student veterinary nurses are allocated sufficient time for ongoing training and tutorials. To support all work experience placements.

Business & Culture Liaise with the CA Practice Manager to assist with the scheduling of regular clinic meetings. Regularly review the efficiency and effectiveness of the clinic with the CA Clinic Lead and CA Practice Manager. To produce information for other departments upon request regarding costs of treatment, cases of interest, etc.

In conjunction with the CA Clinic Lead and Practice Manager, adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments for all clinical areas. To ensure good stock control and rotation is implemented. Produce any KPIs or reports upon request from the Executive Management Team.

Health & Safety To be responsible for your own health and safety and that of others in accordance with current WorkSafe legislative requirements. Ensure compliance with any instructions relating to Health and Safety. The position would suit a veterinary nurse who is a great team player and is enthusiastic with great communication skills.

You must want to be part of a team committed to providing quality service in a busy but fun practice. Salary is negotiable depending on experience. Continuing education is encouraged and supported.
