Technical Lead


The National Earth and Marine Observations (NEMO) Branch provides national leadership in the definition, acquisition, stewardship and application of satellite remote sensing and seabed data. NEMO's work is underpinned by world-class expertise in marine, remote sensing and information sciences. The NEMO Operations section maintains a number of critical operational and production services in support of delivery of Geoscience Australia's National Earth and Marine Observation functions.

The Technical Lead provides input to or leads project management services relevant to the provision of data access and production services, data management policy and practice, publishing services, reporting, service monitoring, coordination and technical advice, stakeholder relationship management, client support, and provision of updates, improvements and daily management of GA's mission critical systems and Emergency Management services. As Technical Lead, you will be required to: provide expertise across a broad range of activities potentially relating to the work of different program areas take responsibility for the achievements of own and team outcomes, monitor progress and follow through to deliver quality outcomes consider and effectively manage competing priorities and strategic directions when achieving team planning and project outcomes in line with agency goals and objectives undertake work activities with an awareness of their possible impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for the organisation or branch communicate and make decisions with a high level of impact on the functional area and the potential to impact more broadly on agency operations and externally. The key duties of the position include Working with a level of independence, in this role you will: contribute technical expertise to development of software solutions supporting the development of HPC and cloud-based data services work across NEMO and external teams to coordinate development of sustainable software and data management solutions.

scope and develop automated reporting functions to underpin a knowledge base on GA's data assets. undertake maintenance of NEMO's data assets across a range of platforms. develop a data management policy and set of protocols for Digital Earth Australia (DEA) to enable effective management of NEMO's Earth Observation assets.

manage, deliver and monitor projects that may have an organisation wide impact coordinate the use of specialist project service providers, including contractors and consultants report on program outcomes to internal and external stakeholders coordinate cross-program activities within and external to NEMO direct reporting in relation to customer service activities and act on recommendations contribute to a culture that exemplifies the exploration of new science and technologies, continual learning and improvement of process collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to establish joint program initiatives in supp.
