Environmental Instrumentation Lead


To support strong growth and to add to an already established team the company would like to appoint an Environmental Instrumentation Lead. This role offers a competitive remuneration package including bonus relocation expenses. Our client is part of the global U.

S. based company that is a supplier of critical environmental monitoring instruments for weather, water, energy, gas flux and turbulence, infrastructure, and soil measurement across a wide range of sectors (agriculture, research, meteorology, hydrology, industrial, and mining). These instruments utilise data loggers and sensors to provide critical data in harsh, remote environments, including flood warning systems and remote meteorological stations.

As each measurement application is unique the company has highly trained application specialists who work closely with partner companies and customers to configure systems that address their specific instrumentation needs. To support strong recent growth and complement existing senior staff the company would like to appoint a Technical Lead, with a strong focus supporting their Hydrology & Meteorology clients and also playing a key role in coaching more junior staff. The Technical Lead would be based in the Townsville office initially, for 12 months to 18 months, and then in the new Melbourne office.

There would be an option to stay in Townsville if this was preferred. The Technical Lead will be responsible for: Providing Technical pre- and post-sales support to customers and the Applications Engineering (AE) team. Working with customers to identify and specify their requirements to provide solutions and quotations.

Providing project support to the Project Managers for the planning and implementation of these solutions. Undertaking programming for data logger communications, testing, and identifying bugs, working closely with the AE team on software issues. Oversight of technical training, both internally and externally for the company.

To be successful in this role the successful candidate will require: Relevant technical experience with Hydrological or Meteorological instruments or in a related instrumentation field utilising data loggers and sensors. Relevant qualification such as Electronic/Electrical Engineering or other relevant Engineering qualification, or Environmental Science or other relevant Science qualification, Physics, and/or IT. Experience providing system design, pre and post technical sales support for similar instruments.

An ability to write programs for data logger communications, including Modbus, DNP3, MQTT, ethernet connections, serial communications, internet protocols and satellite/radio/other communication technologies. A competitive base salary will be negotiated with the preferred candidate. The remuneration includes superannuation and a potential bonus based on company and individual performance.
