Principal Lawyer and Manager, Commercial Law Unit - Fixed term/Full time - until 30 June 2022 About the role A rare and exceptional opportunity has arisen to work as a Principal Lawyer and Manager in an outstanding legal team, in the Commercial Law Unit (CLU) of the Commercial and Legislation (CAL) branch in the Legal Division of the Department of Education and Training. The role is full time, fixed term for 1 year. The CLU provides expertise across the full life cycle of commercial transactions undertaken within the Department and by Schools, including strategic support in the preparation of WOVG Information and Communication Technology (ICT) agreements and with ICT procurement.
The successful candidate will: provide and supervise the provision of high quality, timely legal advice to Ministers, the Secretary, Executives, managers and school principals in relation to complex, high risk or sensitive commercial law matters and legal policy work have the capacity to initiate, drive and contribute to innovative quasi-legal projects and reforms to improve Department practice in key areas of legal risk, including through drawing on the skills and expertise of others analyse complex issues and identify whole of Department and whole of government issues where they arise be an experienced lawyer with a strong understanding of the principles and practice of commercial law in: providing effective written and or oral advice on both simple and complex matters; and influencing and working with a consultative fashion with clients and other stakeholders on commercial matters.
