The Australian Radioactive Waste Agency The Australian Radioactive Waste Agency (ARWA) is a newly established Commonwealth Agency located in Adelaide, South Australia. While we are looking for expertise in a variety of areas, all staff will be expected to model and promote a culture of safety and security, and to demonstrate high-level negotiation, liaison, and stakeholder engagement skills. Having a healthy respect for hazards and working in a regulated environment, preferably nuclear/radiation hazards, will also be highly regarded. Leadership We have roles available for adaptive leaders to work collaboratively across the technical functions of ARWA.
You will possess a strong understanding of the entire work program and have the ability to develop capability within ARWA to ensure continued growth. Manager, Design – you will be responsible for overseeing the design of the National Radioactive Waste Management Facility (NRWMF). This includes overseeing the site specific and enabling design phases.
To succeed in this role, you will have experience in managing the design of large infrastructure projects. Experience managing projects subject to independent regulatory oversight will be highly regarded. Manager, Waste Management Function – you will be responsible providing critical expertise to lead and manage the waste management function of ARWA as detailed in the Australian Radioactive Waste Management Framework, 2018.
You will have a key role in engaging with waste holders across the country to develop and implement policies relating to the Commonwealth National Inventory of Radioactive Waste (CNIRW) and development of the Waste Acceptance Criteria for the NRWMF. You will also be responsible for leading the research and development of Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) management solutions nationally. Manager, Safety Case and Radiation Safety (Radiation Safety Officer) – you will be responsible for the management and development of the safety case and safety risk functions, including Low Level Waste (LLW) disposal and ILW storage safety cases, coordination of specialist input, development of safety criteria, and related research and development activities.
You will apply your experience and leadership expertise to proactively evaluate critical challenges and direct the development of effective solutions.
