Counsellor opportunity working within Federal Government – Your new company This Federal Government Department supports over 27,000 members of the veteran community and their families annually. They deliver free and confidential nation-wide counselling and support for service-related mental health conditions. They are now seeking a Counsellor / Psychologist on a 12 month contract.

Your new role As part of the Client Engagement and Support Services team you will work to provide direct support to clients and community stakeholders. You will assist to influence a recovery approach for vulnerable and/or at risk veteran and Australian Defence Force (ADF) communities and families. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Facilitating the delivery of counselling and other programs to veterans, ADF personnel and their families by applying quality assurance principles and procedures to ensure the clinical practice, reporting and invoicing activities of outreach counsellors meet contractual requirements and ensuring Open Arms contracted counsellors and other providers are accessing relevant services, resources and supports for clients.

Participation in community development and service promotion activities as required. Provision of high quality clinical services including assessment and referral, evidence based individual, couple and family counselling, and case management to eligible Open Arms clients in order to achieve outcomes identified in care planning processes. Participation in and contribution to ongoing learning and development activities and maintenance of professional status.

Contribution to the development and delivery of Open Arms group programs as required. What you'll need to succeed To be successful for this role you will have: Demonstrated a high level of competence in the application of a range of up to date, evidence based, clinical interventions and other activities, relevant to promoting and supporting the positive mental health of the Open Arms client group. A solid understanding of the nature of issues and challenges faced by military veterans, defence force personnel, and their families; and have an ability to respond to their specific needs in ways that enable the development of trust and confidence in the service.

Qualifications must be that of an accredited health profession or social worker. Social workers must be registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and; Mental Health Accreditation What you'll get in return An exciting role that truly exists to positively use your experience to help impact the lives of veterans and their families who have serviced our community.
