Tissue Donation Nurse Specialist, Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine is Australias most comprehensive forensic medical facility. We serve the Victorian community and the whole of the Victorian justice system, especially the courts. We provide the justice system with evidence to underpin safe convictions and appropriate acquittals.
Our doctors help investigate deaths reported to the Coroner, examine alleged offenders and assess, treat and support victims of crime. The Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria supports patients and their families by providing safe tissues for transplantation and medical research. 8 hours a week About us The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) is an independent statutory authority governed by the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine Act 1985. It is part of the Justice portfolio of the Victorian Government. VIFM is based at the Coronial Services Centre which also houses the Coroners Court of Victoria.
The core activities of the VIFM are: the provision of forensic medical and scientific services in support of coronial and police investigations the assessment, treatment and support of victims of crime the provision of tissue banking services to the community, including managing prospective donors and their families research aligned to the Institute's forensic activities; and the development and delivery of educational programs in forensics.
