Project OfficerWaste Operations and Programs
• Full time permanent position based in Parramatta • Starting salary of $87,411 super annual leave loading About the Role: This Project Officer role in the EPA’s Circular Economy Programs team supports the delivery of a range of programs to divert food and garden waste from landfill. They include Love Food Hate Waste, an education program to help households and business avoid food waste, and programs to increase food donation, increase food waste recycling through kerbside and business collection services, increase processing infrastructure and develop markets for compost. Tasks include grant administration, community education and engagement, preparing government correspondence, stakeholder liaison, records management and general administration.
Primary purpose of the role and team: The position supports the development, implementation and review of programs and projects designed to assist local government, business and the community to reduce and recycle food waste. The management of waste is a key focus area. In particular, we are targeting organics waste from households, business and industry across all aspects of the waste hierarchy – from avoidance to recycling.
We are helping transform this waste into products which can be used to improve soils. Our support of the organics sector includes working with local government, businesses and industry, driving education campaigns and providing funding for infrastructure to collect and process more organics waste to keep it out of landfill. Essential Requirements: • Understanding of the environmental issues, in relation to waste management and resource recovery, and the principles of ecologically sustainable development.
• Project management skills and experience in the delivery of projects to achieve behaviour change and improve waste management and resource recovery practice.
