Emergency nursing often involves performing fast and important interventions for a large number of cases 24 hours a day without ever knowing what to expect or what will present next. Although a lot of the skills and knowledge required in this role are highly transferrable from emergency to intensive and critical care nursing, they are very different in their applications. What’s Intensive and Critical Care Nursing? Southpaws provide expert veterinary care to patients that have been referred for investigation, treatment and surgery.
Some of these patients require intensive levels of support to recover from serious injury and illness, major orthopaedic, soft tissue, oncological, neurological and thoracic surgeries. The intensive care of these patients is multifaceted and will include; Accurate and precise record keeping of patient status and actions Continuous multi-parameter patient monitoring with high dependency and critical status Maintaining IV and Central lines, feeding tubes and urinary catheters Complex analgesia regimens including nerve block, epidural, CRI and transdermal patches Management of respiratory compromised patients with ventilators Post-operative physiotherapy, cold compress and physical rehabilitation Passion, compassion and tender loving care Do I have the experience/skills/qualifications to be an ICU Nurse?
