A unique opportunity to utilize your industrial sewing experience within a great team Your new company The Department of Justice is the state department responsible for correctional facilities in Tasmania. In this role you will be working with the Tasmanian Prison Service onsite at the Risdon Prison Complex. This complex includes maximum, medium and minimum-security facilities for male and female inmates.
The Tasmania Prison Service contributes to a safer Tasmania by keeping in secure custody those sentenced by the Courts and providing an effective correctional system, with a vision is to stop re-offences by providing inmates opportunities for rehabilitation, personal development, reintegration and community engagement. Your new role This role will see you working in a dedicated Tailor Shop where you will be tasked with producing items such as inmates clothing (male and female), bedding, clear bags, curtains, signage and general upholstery. You will be in a leading hand role (2IC) where you will be required to work with 15 or so medium risk prisoners and transfer some of your sewing expertise.
You will be required to maintain an excellent quality of work and adhere to all safety standards. This role is initially available 2-3 days per week. What you'll need to succeed Qualifications or demonstrated employment experience in clothing production (essential) or textile fabrication and production Australian Citizenship Current Australian Federal Police Check Excellent communication skills Flexibility to work weekdays and weekends What you'll get in return My client will provide a thorough induction during your first week of work - this will involve taking you through their processes and expectations and answer any questions you may have on the role so you feel comfortable and confident.
You will be provided with all necessary tools to do the job. The pay rate for this role is $27.40 per hour, plus any relevant penalties and overtime.
You will receive a 9.5% super contribution to a superfund of your choice and a weekly pay cycle. Working through Hays, you will receive regular contact and post-placement care from consultants for the duration of your assignment.
