Media and Communications Manager

The Melbourne Rebels are seeking a Media & Communications Manager to join our commercial and marketing team to manage the Club’s day-to-day, mid-term and strategic media, broadcast, public relations and communications requirements. This is 6 month contract arrangement January to June 2021. Reporting to the General Manager - Commercial & Marketing, the role will focus on primarily on: Developing and executing weekly and monthly media plans; Delivering best in class press releases, conferences and accessibility to players and coaches for the media; Providing excellent support to broadcasters on game-day to fulfil all coverage obligations; Growing the Club’s new media exposure online, in print and on television; Supporting the GM and CEO in any crisis media management scenarios which may arise; Leveraging the rugby and sports journalist network in Melbourne and nationally to drive proactive growth of the Rebels reach; and Developing strong relationships with the Rebels existing strong media base and Rugby Australia media stakeholders.

Working collaboratively, internally, externally and across all key stakeholders, means that relationship management skills, as well as the ability to influence, and manage your time and priorities effectively, is essential to succeed in this role. The role is also responsible for delivering, in conjunction with the Marketing, Digital and Content team, the overarching marcomms strategy for the Rebels and growing our social audience by 15% over the next 12 months. The ideal candidate will have: Approximately 2-3 years of experience in a similar media manager or journalistic role Demonstrated experience in proactively developing media coverage and executing on content plans Demonstrated ability of building and maintaining a strong relationships High level of maturity, engagement, networking, presentation and stakeholder management skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills and exceptional attention to detail Strong organisational skills, strong resilience and ability to work at home games and work non-traditional hours (nights, weekends and some Public holidays as required by the issues at hand).
