The Advanced Family Safety Practitioner role is a key initial role in a pilot scheme with a State Government Department. A role that aligns with The Family Violence Policy and Practice Unit (FVPPU), in working collaboratively with external agencies to ensure a best practice therapeutic approach within the Victorian Family Violence System. The purpose of the role is to provide advanced assessment and case management in regard to family violence victim-survivors, engaging with victim survivors to provide support, advocacy and risk management.
The role:- Will involve regular liaison with external agencies to coordinate assessment and risk management. Working closely with the Respondent Practitioner, who engages with respondents to conduct Risk and Needs Assessments and short-term case management, to expand their capacity to participate in programs, interventions and/or other approved counselling programs. Apply an evidence-informed, pattern-based understanding of family violence.
Support victim-survivor agency and autonomy, and understand their actions to resist violence and create dignity for themselves and their families. Apply the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) framework principles. Assess and respond to the impact of family violence on children, and on parent-child relationships and family functioning.
Liaise with the judiciary, court staff, and stakeholders. Key selection criteria:- A demonstrated understanding and experience in family violence, risk assessment and victim survivor referral programmes Demonstrated understanding of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) Demonstrated experience applying an evidence-based, pattern-based understanding of family violence. Relevant qualifications in social work, psychology or other related field.
Experience working with people who use violence in the context of specialist men's behaviour change or other perpetrator interventions (minimum three years' experience).
