Systems Project Manager

Position Overview/Purpose Manage the design and development of implantable hearing systems from conception to launch readiness and support. Key focuses include technical integration, clinical and regulatory planning. Accountabilities Manage the technical design and development of implantable hearing systems from conception to market launch and support – project scope, project schedule, product quality and success, system configuration and interoperability, clinical strategy planning, regulatory approval, field preview, system release, investigation and resolution of system field issues, project status reporting and stakeholder management (including senior executives).

Coordinate the planning and execution of the integration of the individual product projects (implants, sound processors etc.) to ensure that the products work successfully together to meet customer and business needs and are delivered at the time required by the business. The role has no direct reports but has dotted line responsibiloity for a group of projects comprising of up to 30 cross-functional team members.

Mentorship or coaching of junior project managers. Budgetary responsibility related to the System project. Identify opportunities to innovate the development system and to champion new practices that improve product development productivity.

Be a champion of change and drive improvement and upskill of project management process and practise. Drive System thinking throughout the organisation. As a member of the System Development leadership team – ensure best decisions taken appropriate level in the interest of all, accountable for project management excellence through processes, tools, services allowing for organic growth and diversification opportunities, supports building Cochlear as a market leader and represents R&D at meetings with senior and executive level leaders regarding system projects progress and initiatives.

Key incumbent requirements Minimum Teritary qualifications in engineering with a focus on medical or microsystem technologies 10 years engineering experience in new product development 4 years experience in project management in product development Experience with regulatory certification principles (FDA, CE, TGA, NMPA) for medical devices Excellent skills in written and spoken communication, decision making, stakeholder management, negotiation and conflict resolution, systems engineering, risk management, project scheduling and product support Strong focus on meeting customer and business needs Passion for managing projects and people to deliver successful products Profound knowledge in management of Agile and Stage-Gate projects Ideal Postgraduate qualifications in engineering (PhD) Multidisciplinary technical experience, preferably including mechanical, electrical, electrochemical and software engineering Extensive knowledge of Cochlear technology and cochlear implant customer needs Good understanding of medical device quality Knowledge of proj.
