Education in Australia – What Is NAPLAN?
NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing and numeracy.
The assessments are undertaken at schools nationwide, every year, in the second full week in May. Each year, in August, the results of the national tests are distributed to students who sat the exams. The report students receive shows preliminary results at each year level and domain by state and territory and nationally. It shows where the student scores compared to the school average and national average for their year level. It does not count towards their assessment at school but the results are used to calculate the schools average score and the school is then ranked against other schools locally and nationally.
